Jerusalem: 3 millennia of war and bloodshed

If we take a glimpse of the past of all the cities then we can probably think of Jerusalem having the darkest history. Lets have a look at the major events that caused the destruction of this city and how this city emerged again and what it is now.

The city originally belonged to Jews. King Solomon, son of David and king of Israel known for his wisdom built the first temple, somewhere around 832 BC.

Then the Babylonians invaded the city and razed the temple in 598 BC and Jews were exiled. (Siege of Jerusalem (587 BC) )

Then king Cyrus the great allowed Jews to return and rebuild the temple (about 539 BC).

Then, Alexander the great came to the city. He spared the temple. Then Jerusalem came under Seleucid Empire, which was divided from the Macedonian empire. Maccabean Revolt, which involved many battles in itself, took place against the empire and continued for long 7 years. (167 BC to 160 BC)

Then it was seized by Romans. The Jews retaliated but were unsuccessful. They were again exiled form Jerusalem. The second temple was destroyed (66 AD).

It was then followed by Bar Kokhba revolt (132-136 AD)to establish back a Jewish state but failed.

Romans then converted to Christianity in about 325 AD. Jews were banned from the kingdom.

Then Islam came into existence and took over the city (632 AD) by Rashidun Caliphate. (Siege of Jerusalem (637)). Non Muslims are now treated inhumane.

Then Crusades by Christianity took place and the city was captured in the First Crusade  (Siege of Jerusalem (1099)). Jerusalem became the capital of theKingdom of Jerusalem, a Christian city after 450 years under caliphate rule. 2000 Jews were burnt alive.

The city was then raided by Kurdish Ayyubid in the Battle of Hattin. 1st crusade kingdom was over (1187).

Then came the mongols, powerful and fierce and raided it. They returned back and the city was reclaimed by Mamluks.

Then it was the time for Ottoman to defeat the Mamluks. Ottoman–Mamluk War (1516–17) resulted in the victory of Ottoman Turks. Jews were treated as second class citizens.

After the 1st world war, Ottoman empire collapsed and the Britishers captured it. They promised that land to the Jews under Balfour Declaration.

Muslims attacked the Jews in the cities of Jerusalem and Hebron (read 1929 Palestine riots and 1929 Hebron massacre)

(Jerusalem in 1929)

(Hebron in 1929)

State of Israel was born in 1948 and the city was kept as a separate entity. It was a partition between Jordan and Israel. Many massacres took place in the city during that period. After the Six-Day War Israel conquered the ancient city and restored it to freedom.
The city then survived the Intifadas (the process of ethnically cleansing of Jews by Arabs)

Now the city is suffering from terror attacks, 24/7. When I am saying daily attacks I mean it. Even the Palestinian children are brainwashed against Israel and made to carry out attacks.

Taking him for Israeli, Palestinian girls stab Arab in Jerusalem (stabbings by 16 and 14 year old girls)

Currently a wave of terrorism is going through the city, sometimes also referred as the 3rd intifada. Read Israeli–Palestinian conflict (2015).

But the city is now a heritage site and Israel has renovated the city to its old glory. We cannot claim the city to be peaceful in anyway but probably it it the time it is far less in conflicts and violence, after long 4000 years.

12 Things you probably do not know about Israelis

     1. How they tackle terror-

Since the foundation of Israel they have been under the wave of terrorism by the Palestinian and Arab terrorists. They have well managed with the terror. They have survived 2 intifadas and seems like the third intifada is going on in it, though unofficially this time. They are clearly well managing it with high efficiency forces and police.

2.  Optimism-

It is relatively very new nation, but has fought several wars since its foundation because Arabs world cannot digest the fact that a Jewish nation is prospering with economic and technological growth. Terror always prevails there. But the people are highly courageous and optimist that even with all these occurrences Israel is world’s eleventh happiest country.

 3. Innovation-

Necessity is the mother of invention and Israel has proved its prowess in innovation and invention especially in arms and weapons. The weapons that even special forces use is a gun named Tavor (used by Special Forces including Indian ones). They have developed a drone named Heron., and also a rocket repellant system called Iron Dome. Iron Dome has blocked 90% of the rockets targeting Israel

4.  War tactics-

Just after its foundation, this young nation of 20 years was attacked by the whole Arab world in 1967. Its army and air-force dealt with it tactically and the war ended in six days.

Then the Arab world launched an attack again in 1973. This time the bunch of 12 nations, directly or indirectly against one nation-Israel. Again, it tackled them with valiance and courage. Though Israel too encountered losses, but it was expected due to heavy manpower from the other side.

A picture says more than a thousand words.

5.  Boldness

Israel did not allow Iraq and Syria to possess nuclear weapons. Israel destroyed Syria's and Iraq's nuclear reactors using its air force (read Operation Orchard and Operation Opera). Just think ISIS has captured Iraq and Syria, but is not having nuke because of Israel, and hence we can think why ISIS could be enemy of Israel.

6.  Development-

Israel was literally nothing when it was found, but now  Israel ranks 19th out of 187 nations on the UN's Human Development Index, which places it in the category of "Very Highly Developed" making Israel ahead of countries like France, Austria and Belgium. (India still ranks 135th). That makes it the most advanced nation in Southwest Asia and middle east in economic and industrial development.

7.       Marketing and Business-

Israel is one of the best places for business. Tel Aviv, a prominent city in Israel is ranked 3rd in terms of technology business. They have developed high end technology in agriculture and now have big customers like India.

8.  Intelligence-

Mossad and Shin Bet are they. Two of the most powerful secret agencies. Since it is a secret even I don’t know much about it.

9.  Culture-

Hebrew was a dead language back and we have to accredit Israelis for its revamping. Hebrew, the sacred language of Jews was more or less like what Sanskrit is today in India, unknown to the people. Hebrew was revived in 19th and 20th century and it is now one of the official languages of Israel.

10.   Humanitarian work-

Israel had launched more than 15 humanitarian aids for the past 26 years in the countries affected by any natural calamity.

Israel was the first country to support Haiti in 2010 by setting up a field hospital.

Israel was the first nation to support Japan after tsunami and earthquake.

And what not. They have a special agency named Mashav dedicated for this job. This agency has provided humanitarian aid to about 140 countries.

11.   Secularism-

It is the only democracy in the middle east. People condemn it for being against Muslims, but the ground reality is that even the Arabs living there like it for its secularism. Far liberal than it's other counterparts in middle east.

12.   Education-

Israel is having highest university degree to population in the world and is second most educated country after Canada according to time magazine.  Israeli scientific research institutions are ranked 3rd in the world.

I am not a preacher of Israel, but what I can analyze is that although being a very small country it is an excellent one. The people are flexible but stiff, soft but strong, tolerant but retaliative and small but powerful at the same time. Their prowess lies in their unity, strong stance and their determination for continuous progress. The country is at unofficial war as of now because of the daily rammings and stabbings of Israelis by the Palestinians and the world isn't giving a damn to it (It always was). Most of the attacks always remain unnoticed and then of forgotten.

Seriously Israelis, you made me your fan.

Pray for peace in the region.

Why must every Indian support Israel?

As an Indian I feel it is my duty to support Israel. They deserve respect and support.                                                                                                      __________________________________

Their courage and patriotism is beyond any comparison.

It was the time of 1968 when a new nation, merely standing at the age of 20, which started with zero (literally) with its childhood occupied with internal pains, stood firm against 2 nations- Syria and Egypt. They did not surrender. Infact they won.

Again 5 years later, these 2 nations namely Syria and Egypt again repeated that cheap and inhumane tactic, this time when most of the Jewish soldiers were on holiday. They were equipped with the weapons supplied by the USSR. This time it was hard, and Israel lost its land of Sinai, which was captured by them in '68. But again they were able to defeat them

Whenever our newspapers fetch stories from Israel, we always read about gruesome act by Lebanon, Hamas terrorists from Gaza strip etc. It takes a lot of courage to withstand that pressure, internal and external especially when you are surrounded by hostile neighborhood.

India too shares the same positions with Egypt and Syria as Pakistan and China. With far more power and arms than the former two and coridially acting to move against India, internal tensions of Kashmir, naxals etc I believe that India must learn from Israel.

Their innovation (especially in arms)-

Well they are a new nation and have always supported India by providing with high quality weapons like IMI Tavor TAR-21 used by Indian special forces. A nation with little area is proving itself to be a backbone for arms supply for a huge nation like India. They have well managed their resources.

(Indian special forces using Tavor)

And yes, they helped us during the time of Kargil war by providing mortar, laser guided missiles, Israeli Heron and searcher Unmanned Aerial Vehicles. Their help was crucial for us at the time of war.

Planes, Drones, Missiles: How Kargil changed Indo–Israeli Relations

The development they did in last 60 years-

As I already stated, they started from zero. And now  Israel ranks 19th out of 187 nations nations on the UN's Human Development Index, which places it in the category of "Very Highly Developed" making Israel ahead of countries like France, Austria and Belgium. (India still ranks 135th)

And yes, their military is tough and powerful, and beautiful too

Israel is one of the few countries in which even women have to serve for military. What I mean is this

Well, keeping jokes apart, I sincerely thank Israel for its support for India.
And I am pretty sure that an average Israeli does like India.
I wonder how an average Indian can resist to support Israel.

AAP's Way of Polarizing Vote Bank

Creating its own vote bank is a tiresome job and AAP has achieved something beyond specialization. The instances show that it had gone to any extent to achieve that. There is only one political party which can go to the extreme of supporting terrorism (at least others don't do it openly) to appease some of the fundamentalists. So not all political parties are same. Some are even worse.

See what they have done in recent times-

1. India must stop purchasing arms from Israel
So because Israel is having problems dealing with the Palestinians, therefore we must not buy weapons from Israel. We must threaten our security because Israel is facing some internal problem. Wow!!

2. Candlelight vigil for Gaza
Remember this thing? A candle march organized because Israel shot dead some brutal Hamas Terrorists. Why does this issue come to mind of any political party? This issue is not even Indian but they didn't even leave this issue. This is like creating issue without having any issue.

3. EC warns AAP on pamphlets seeking Muslim votes.
So now for them even elections are communal and ultimately EC has to check on their activties.

4. They want AFSPA to be lifted up from Kashmir. They had shamelessly pblished it in their manifesto. In the place where insurgency, terrorism, pro ISIS, pro Pakistan moment is taking place with a greater force, they want to lift AFSPA from the region. Not sure whether they want Pakistan to take over it, but something is suspicious about them. They are again supporting terrorism.

Well on this issue, I, although being an opposer of Congress, keep them above AAP. They at least did not compromise with internal security of state by lifting AFSPA. Although they did not act to retaliate Pakistan.

Talking about AAP is like rolling in the mud by Balaji Viswanathan on Ode on a Grecian Urn

I seriously think that talking about AAP is like rolling in the mud. First time in the history of independent India we can observe people who openly justify terrorism, Kashmir infiltration etc.

Delhi had given them chance to improve but it is the worst mistake Delhi has made.
